My First Real Piano   Leave a comment

Bridget's keyboard

Have always dreamt of one, since I sat at my cousin’s piano when I was a small boy; and, finally, after ~20 years, UK seems to have made those dreams come true!

www.Gumtree.com offered an ancient upright piano free-to-collect, just from less than a mile away! It came together with a home-made dolly tailored for Bridget (that’s the name of it!)

Before I move on posting, you may come across several sacrileges I might blog here about what I have done to the piano. Lots of critics I would receive especially from those sensitive old piano collectors/repairers; but bear in mind these facts:

  • By no means I wanted to inflict any further damage to the piano
  • Did, am doing and will do what’s all in my power for this piano to sound again in all its possible glory
  • Certain circumstances caused the piano to be moved the way it was
  • I am a hobbyist engineer, hence follow the experimental path of DIM (do-it-myself)
  • I want to learn repairing and tuning piano(s) due to my admiration and affection to this marvellous piece of music engineering, and this being a serious long-term spare-time project
  • Constrained budget would always imply aiming for the cheapest solutions

To be continued…
